For a consecutive year, Theta Consult Ltd. took part in the International Nuclear Conference organized by the Bulgarian Atomic Forum (Bulatom).
The conference was opened on June 4 by the association’s chairman, Mr. Bogomil Manchev, and over the next three days, a series of discussions were held, and numerous reports were presented under the slogan “Bulgarian Nuclear Energy – National, Regional, and Global Energy Security”.
The return to nuclear technologies on a global scale (except for Germany) was noted. The future of small modular reactors was discussed and the contribution of nuclear energy (as a “green” energy) to the decarbonization and climate neutrality of the sector was recognized.
The problems identified include the disrupted supply chain and the lack of skilled personnel (mainly engineers for the industry). In connection with the latter, many students were invited to the conference and all companies expressed their willingness to provide all possible assistance for their training and recruitment in the nuclear sector.
The focus was on the construction of the new 7th and 8th units at the Kozloduy NPP. In addition to Westinghouse and Hyundai, many other companies will participate in their construction (29 agreements have been signed so far). This will be the first AP 1000 project in Europe and expectations are high. These units should be ready for commissioning in about 10 years (in 2035 and 2036).
More information about the conference and the presentations in the various sections can be found on the Bulatom website.
Six representatives of Theta Consult attended the three working days of the conference to learn about current trends and issues in the development of the nuclear sector, but also to present the company’s services and products with a presentation and their own stand.
The stand showcased a small selection of the specialized equipment we offer—radiation and dosimetry monitoring devices manufactured by our partners Thermo Fischer Scientific, Ortec and Berthold.
A presentation on “Individual Dosimetry Control” performed at Theta-Consult Ltd. was given by Gabriela Timevska, a specialist at the Theta’s Radiation Control Body (RCB). This type of control is expected to be included in the accredited scope of the RCB and to be offered as a service to our customers in the future.
